i hate it when someone makes such an amazing first cd that they will never top it and the rest of their careers will be garbage.
i had this thought while listening to the new Andrew W.K. I mean seriously, how will he ever top i get wet? its impossible.

I seem to have that problem with a lot of extreme metal bands. These come to mind first:
Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse
Runemagick - The Supreme Force of Eternity
Living Sacrifice - s/t
Aura Noir - Black Thrash Attack
Zyklon - World ov Worms
Myrkskog - Deathmachine
Amon Amarth - Once Sent From the Golden Hall

Most "good" bands are like this. They make the first album before they become familar with the music industry. Touring and the machine tend to zap their creativity, not to mention getting older just tends to mello bands out.
The really great bands find a way to evolve their sound such that its still awesome.
my entry: The Anniversay. Their second album was still pretty good, but it wasn't the rock fest that Designing a Nervous Breakdown was.
